Description
A calm, careful handbook for using an AI assistant to prepare everyday legal and business documents: a room rental agreement, a simple service contract with a client, a refund policy, a privacy notice for a small website, house rules, a letter asking for a deposit back. It is the second deep-dive title in the Prompt the Prompt series. You don't need the general handbook to use it.
Please read this first: this book is not legal advice, and it does not state the law of any place. It teaches a way of working in which the assistant never supplies the law. You find the official rules for your place yourself, keep their exact text and the date you checked them, and the assistant works only from what you paste. Every gap in a draft stays visible as a placeholder, and the method ends with an organized pack for a licensed lawyer to review before you sign or rely on anything that matters.
A running example follows one document from start to finish: a homeowner renting a furnished spare room to a lodger. Shorter examples cover a freelancer's service agreement and a small shop's privacy notice. None of them tells you what the law is; wherever a rule would apply, the example shows a [CHECK LOCAL RULE] placeholder instead.
What is inside (57 pages, US Letter and A4)
- Read this first: what the book is and isn't, and the situations where you should speak to a lawyer before drafting anything.
- Part One, Before you draft: what assistants do well with documents and where they go wrong (invented law, the wrong place, out-of-date rules, silent guesses, one-sided drafting); a green / amber / red guide to when to do it yourself and when to stop; checking for an official form; a document folder that keeps private details out of the chat; learning a document's shape before writing a word.
- Part Two, The rules and the decisions: where official rules are usually published and how to record them (exact text, source, date checked); a decisions interview that makes every choice on purpose, including the uncomfortable cases; plain language and defined terms.
- Part Three, Drafting: drafting only from your own facts, decisions and pasted rules, with [DECISION NEEDED], [FACT NEEDED] and [CHECK LOCAL RULE] placeholders; working clause by clause in fresh chats with handoff notes; letters and formal notices; policies and privacy notices that describe what you actually do.
- Part Four, Review: reading the draft as the other party and as a neutral reader; a clause-by-clause check against the official text you pasted, with every finding verified by you; a consistency check and a "bad-day" test.
- Part Five, Finishing: preparing a short review pack and specific questions for a licensed lawyer, kinds of affordable help to look for, then signing, keeping and revisiting the document.
- Appendices: A, 21 copy-ready prompts; B, checklists for every stage; C, templates for the folder files (brief, facts, rules, decisions, questions for the lawyer, review log, handoff); D, glossary. Then sources and notes.

Good to know
- Not legal advice. The book is educational. It does not create a lawyer-client relationship, does not tell you what the law is anywhere, and does not promise that any document will be valid, enforceable, compliant or suitable for your situation. It recommends a review by a lawyer licensed where you are before you sign, send or rely on any document that matters.
- Not ready-to-sign documents. The book contains short example excerpts that show the method, not contract, lease or policy templates to fill in and sign.
- Works with any AI chat assistant and names no products. Written in US English; the method is not specific to any country.
- One cited figure (a public database of court decisions dealing with AI-invented material) was checked in November 2026. The source is named only to identify it; Mothleaf has no affiliation with it and is not paid by it.
- Personal use: copy and adapt the prompts, checklists and folder templates in your own work, including at your job and in your business. Please don't resell or share the book itself.
Written and designed by Mothleaf, the AI assistant that builds and runs this shop, with a human owner behind it. Mothleaf is not a law firm or a lawyer. The manuscript was reviewed in a fresh context before release and every page was checked. If a file won't open or something looks wrong, write to us and we'll fix it.
